This book is the eighth volume of the "New Chinese Language and Culture Course", suitable for students who have learned to master about 1,000 Chinese characters. The book has 10 lessons, teaches 110 new Chinese characters and 148 new words. The teaching time is 12 to 16 units (of 1.5 to 2 hours each). This book introduces representative stories of ancient China in simple language. The storyline is tortuous and legendary, reflecting the life customs and style of ancient Chinese people, as well as their intelligence and humor. Through the study of this book, students can not only further improve the Chinese language level, but also feel the mind and wisdom of ancient sages, broaden their thinking, and get cultural heritage.

The stories have a length of 2 pages each and are written entirely in simplified Chinese characters. New words are introduced in the vocabulary with Hanyu Pinyin and English translation. At the end of the passages, the lesson text will be translated into English. In the appendix, the new characters and words can be found in a list in simplified characters and traditional characters.

New Chinese Language and Culture Course is the second edition of this textbooks series. This is a set of Chinese textbooks specially written for overseas students. It is a joint effort of Teacher Wang Shuangshuang of California and domestic experts in China, based on years of overseas teaching practice. A full set of textbooks with 15 volumes has a character volume of 2500 different Chinese characters, ranging from learning literacy, pinyin, sentence patterns, and essays, to a preliminary and more systematic study of Chinese culture. In addition to the language teaching part, the textbook generally introduces the rich content of Chinese geography, history, philosophy, etc., highlighting the charm of Chinese culture.
