This is a special picture book about the Austrian painter and catholic brother Berchmanns Brückner, who lived in China for 26 years. From 1933-48 he was a teacher at the Catholic Fu Ren University in Beijing, where he taught painting, art theory and art history. But Berchmanns Brückner was also a prolific artist himself; from his paintings and watercolor paintings, old Beijing has been reflected, just as it now no longer exists, even with its city gates and suburbs.

This illustrated book features a biography of brother Berchmann, an essay on the poitioning of his contribution to China's modern art history, as well as the passage from his diaries describing his long farewell.
