Jin Xiandai Hanyu Ciyuan - Chinese edition in 2 volumes in slipcase. Entries are sorted alphabetically by pinyin transcription and all entries are in simplified Chinese only. In addition, some English or foreign language components are sometimes quoted or quoted in rare cases for clarification. Hanyu Pinyin only occurs in the keyword entries.

Based on the Hong Kong Chinese Language and Literature Association's database of modern Chinese etymology, the Jin Xiandai Hanyu Ciyuan is a compilation of more than 780 types of documents (including academic papers, scientific and technological publications, specialized dictionaries, etc.) relevant to China. It mainly collects more than 43,000 Chinese words and a small number of new words influenced by Western culture between 1840 and 1949, including the fields of history and culture and science and technology.

The Jin Xiandai Hanyu Ciyuan takes the general vocabulary of modern Chinese as its main component and extensively collects synonyms and word variants from modern historical documents as sub-articles, supplemented with concise explanations, and provides detailed and accurate etymological evidence in modern historical documents. Please note that this two-volume work is not a classic dictionary, rather it was created to derive the word origin mainly from modern historical documents 1840-1949. This does not mean that this work would only be of interest to a very small global specialist audience, rather it can even be very exciting for all those interested in the subject who already have the prior knowledge to understand the purely Chinese explanations.

The first volume is preceded by a brief alphabetical index of the syllables.The second volume is followed by a very detailed stroke index of all entries (however, this is not a classic radical index).

近现代汉语辞源
本书是以香港中国语文学会近现代汉语辞源数据库为基础，爬梳中国近现代时期具有代表性的780多种文献（包括鸦片战争后至民国时期的学术著作、科技刊物、专科词典等）汇编而成。主要收录1840年至1949年间汉语受西方文化影响而产生的词语和少量本族新词，包括语词类、历史文化类、科学技术类词汇，总约43000余条。

本书以现代汉语通用词汇为正条，广泛收录近现代历史文献中的同义词、异形词作为副条，辅以简明释义，并提供翔实、精当的近现代历史文献中的语源书证，结合精确的时间界定，立体地呈现了汉语外来词形态、语义演变的过程。书后附录有“来华外国人名汉西对照表”“西学东渐大事记”“主要引用文献目录”等，为现代汉语的形成提供溯源资料，为中国近现代社会、历史研究提供指引和参考。

黄河清，香港中国语文学会研究员，数十年来专注于近现代时期汉语研究，翻译有《现代汉语词汇的形成——十九世纪汉语外来词研究》（汉语大词典出版社，1997），编纂有《近现代汉语新词词源词典》（汉语大词典出版社，2001）、《近现代辞源》（上海辞书出版社，2010）等，并在《出版科学》《中国科技术语》《语文建设通讯（香港）》等权威杂志发表学术论文十余篇。
