This is a very special book. It offers a mix of Chinese art, Chinese calligraphy and Chinese linguistics. In the main part, it presents 10 characters and shows the connections between objects of art in relation to these characters.

For example, the character Ji (吉 happiness) is presented. Numerous works of art are presented, such as Chinese paintings that contain calligraphy or whose titles contain the character Ji 吉. At the same time, connections are made to homophonic characters such as rooster (Ji 鸡) and ceramic objects of roosters with the title daji (大吉, great luck) are shown. The book language is almost exclusively in simplified Chinese. Some comments are also given in English. Frequently used sayings from Chinese calligraphy are also compared and shown in Hanyu Pinyin, but only in a comparatively small number. Vocabulary is partly explained and noted in Hanyu Pinyin and English. With many images of art objects, mainly from Chinese painting, sculptures and ceramic objects.
