As a textbook of cultural knowledge, "History of China’s Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries [2nd Edition]" is written to meet the needs of undergraduate teaching of Chinese language majors or Chinese language education majors for international students studying in China. This is vol. 2. This book describes the cultural exchanges between China and other countries and regions in the world over the past two thousand years.

In order to make it easier for international students to understand the content of the textbook and remove the obstacles they encounter in the process of learning and reading, the textbook not only provides phonetic transcription and interpretation of new words, but also explains some words in the form of footnotes. Historical events, cultural concepts, etc. are explained in more detail. In addition, before each chapter, there are "Content Guide", "Teaching Suggestions" and "Teaching Duration", etc., followed by thinking questions and fill-in-the-blank exercises (except the prologue).

作为文化知识类教材，《中外文化交流史》是为满足来华留学生汉语言专业或汉语国际教育专业本科教学之需编写的。本教材分上、下两册。上册为两千年中外文化交流史概说，是课堂讲授的主要内容；下册叙述了两千年间中国与世界各国、各地的文化交流，可供学生在课堂之外阅读和参考，也可供有相关需求的教师选用进行授课。下册分写历史上中国与世界各国、各地之间的文化交流，基本以洲划分，分成三章。每章开始一般有一段综述性文字，把背景性的、属于本洲各国共性的东西交代清楚，然后再分节叙述中国与各国（地）的交流，各节之间又相互观照、彼此呼应。

为使留学生更方便地理解教材内容，扫除其在学习和阅读过程中遇到的障碍，教材除对生词进行注音和释义外，还以脚注形式对某些词语加以解释，对某些历史人物、历史事件、文化概念等做更为详尽的说明。考虑到教学实际以及内容的特殊性，下册每章之前不再单写“内容导读”。
