As a textbook of cultural knowledge, "History of China’s Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries [2nd Edition]" is written to meet the needs of undergraduate teaching of Chinese language majors or Chinese language education majors for international students studying in China. This is vol. 1. The first volume is an overview of the history of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries for two thousand years, which is the main content of classroom teaching.

In order to make it easier for international students to understand the content of the textbook and remove the obstacles they encounter in the process of learning and reading, the textbook not only provides phonetic transcription and interpretation of new words, but also explains some words in the form of footnotes. Historical events, cultural concepts, etc. are explained in more detail. In addition, before each chapter, there are "Content Guide", "Teaching Suggestions" and "Teaching Duration", etc., followed by thinking questions and fill-in-the-blank exercises (except the prologue).

为使留学生更方便地理解教材内容，扫除其在学习和阅读过程中遇到的障碍，教材除对生词进行注音和释义外，还以脚注形式对某些词语加以解释，对某些历史人物、历史事件、文化概念等做更为详尽的说明。另外，每章之前都列有“内容导读”“教学建议”和“授课时长”等，之后则设有思考题和填空练习（序章除外）。
