Erya Chinese: Business Chinese Reading (Elementary) is a pre-intermediate reading material on business Chinese for students who have studied Chinese at higher institutions for a year or students of elementary business Chinese with the equivalent Chinese proficiency. It is composed of nine lessons, each including three parts: “Text”, “Extensive Reading”, and “Appendix” (with “Concepts and Terms” and “Background and Knowledge Links” included). The parts in each lesson show an integral business topic, so as to help students lay a solid foundation for further studies while acquiring professional knowledge and improving their reading abilities.

This textbook takes full consideration of the teaching characteristics of beginner-level business Chinese, taking the knowledge on business Chinese and the practice of reading skills as the cores, endeavoring to combine professional business knowledge with “Text” and “Extensive Reading”, and the three complement each other. It attaches importance to business vocabulary, and selects classic topics so as to make students develop scientific perspective and improve their overall reading and language skills while studying typical vocabulary and understanding business knowledge.

Suggestion
This textbook can be used with other courses of the “Erya Chinese” series, or it can be used independently for schools offering a business Chinese reading course. The “Text”, “Extensive Reading”, and “Appendix” units are relatively independent, so are the parts within the units, matching with the corresponding degree of difficulty. Teachers can choose and select them flexibly based on their curriculum settings and students’ conditions. The appendix can also be used by students who have spare time to read after class.
