This dictionary is a key project of NOCFL, suitable for students whose Chinese is at intermediate or higher level. It can also be used as a basic reference book for overseas teachers.

This dictionary is the result of eight years’ combined efforts. It contains more than 10’000 entries, each of which is provided with clear annotation (in both Chinese and English), an illustration of simple usage, and usual syntactic functions. Ample example sentences are given in the dictionary, showing how varied items of each entry are used in different situations. Moreover, rich cultural information and background knowledge are blended into the example sentences, reflecting Chinese social life and cultural psychology.

 Besides, the correct word for each item concerned is explained in the dictionary; synonyms and antonyms of most of the entries are given; and differentiation for similar words are also explained in details.

学汉语用例词典 (外国人学汉语工具书)
近年来，随着世界范围内学习汉语的人日益增多，对学习辅助工具——词典的需求也越来越大。《学汉语用例词典》就是适应这一形势而编写的。与已经出版的同类词典不同，本词典针对使用群体的特殊性，以提供大量的词语运用实例为突出特色，同时在其他方面也做了一些努力，从而增强了实用性。具体有如下几个特点：
　　1、用例丰富实用。这是本词典的着力点和主要部分。本着学习词语是为了应用，也只有在应用中才能真正掌握所学词语的理念，每个条目及义项都提供了若干实际用例。
　　2、收词重在常用。本词典所收条目范围包括：①《汉语水平词汇与汉字等级大纲》（国家汉语水平考试委员会办公室考试中心）的词语，但排除其中部分非常用词语，如“镁、粮票、流寇”等。②近300个使用度较高而又相对稳定的新词语，如“百分点、超市、品牌、爱心、减肥”等。③部分较常用或构词能力较强的字。④300余个较常用的成语。条目总数共约10000条。此外，具有多个义项的条目只选用义项。
　　3、释义简明通俗。释义主要参照《现代汉语词典》，但为降低理解难度 ，作了部分简明和通俗化的处理；
　　4、重视文化差异。鉴于中外文化差异对汉语学习的影响，本词典作了一些沟通工作：一是选词，补充了“热门”、“插足”、“下海”等字面不难，又需要一定背景知识才能理解的词语；同时收入一批包含丰富文化内涵的常用成语，如“坐井观天”、“亡羊补牢”等。二是在例句中提供文化信息，例如“爱”，依不同义项有“爸爸很爱这个独生女儿”、“老年人好像比年轻人更爱运动”、“别太爱面子了”、“老张打扑克总爱输”、“车在那儿放着，爱骑不骑，随便”、“记世界充满爱”等，从中可以透视出中国的社会生活和中国人的文化心理。三是通过附录补充介绍文化知识，如中国行政区划、中国的民族、中国的主要节日等。
　　5、提供相关信息。为使读者更好地理解与正确使用词语，本词典弄出了诸如：词语的性质、名词与量词的搭配、反义词与近义词等多种信息，部分词语作了词义辨析。此外每个条目及义项都配有简略的英文释义。
