Easy Chinese for Kids is designed for elementary students with no Chinese background. It focuses first on listening and speaking, and then on reading and writing to effectively improve students’ overall communication skills. The introduction to Pinyin at the beginning of this book helps young children learn to pronounce and understand Chinese correctly. Ten lessons in the textbook, which can also be taught separately from the Pinyin lessons, teach students Chinese words on colors, numbers, family members, animals, shapes, food and drinks, telling time etc., while progressing to simple and practical dialogs. Each lesson has colorful images, new words and simple sentences. It is designed in accordance with LOTE (Languages Other Than English) Standards of various states.

About the Authors
De-an Wu Swihart, co-director of the Center for Teaching and Learning in China, a non-profit organization in Tennessee, is devoted to the training of Chinese and American teachers. After graduating from Peking University in 1982, Ms. Wu pursued a further education in US and received her MA degree from the University of Chicago and PhD. degree from Princeton University. She began to teach Chinese language, literature and culture at American universities from 1983 and has published nine textbooks on Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL), one of which is Daily Chinese for English Speakers.

Lung-Hua Gail Hu is the coordinator of Chinese language program at Brown University and senior lecturer. She got her Bachelor Degree from Soochow University in Taiwan and Master Degree from Columbia University of New York. She has taught Chinese at Princeton University for many years. She also taught in the following several programs: Princeton in Beijing, Middlebury College's Chinese Summer School, Columbia University's Beijing Language program and Duke Study in China. In 2006, the intermediate Chinese courses she taught were appraised as one of College Board's Ten Top Chinese Courses.

本书是为母语为英语的小学生编写的一套汉语教材，编写时参考了美国多个州的LOTE (Languages Other than English) Standards（外语教学标准），把“听说”和“读写”分开来教，把“有效交流”作为基本的学习目的。本书依据这些原则，注重以交流为目的，让学生学会实地应用学过的中文。本书的第1册不教汉字，而是重点教“听说”和拼音的书写系统，并特别把汉语拼音和英语的对比发音作为重点进行教学；课文设计尽量依据美国多个州的外语教学标准要求的内容，如“问候、颜色、形状、食物、时间、学校生活”等，所选词汇基本上是这些话题的常用词汇。对话以培养学生在实际生活中的交流能力为重点。

作者简介
吴德安，美国田纳西州非盈利教育组织“美国大学中国教学中心”主任，致力于中美教师培训。1982年毕业于北京大学中文系，其后赴美留学，先后获得美国芝加哥大学硕士学位、普林斯顿大学博士学位。1983年开始在美国大学教授汉语、中国文学和中国文化。出版有《外国人实用生活汉语》等9种对外汉语教材。

胡龙华，美国布朗大学东亚系中文项目负责人，高级讲师。先后获得台湾东吴大学学士学位和纽约哥伦比亚大学硕士学位。曾在美国普林斯顿大学任教多年，并曾任教于普林斯顿北京培训班、明德大学暑期中文学校、哥伦比亚大学北京暑期班、杜克大学北京暑期强化中文班。2006年，她的中级汉语课程被美国大学理事会评定为全美十大最佳中文课程之一。
